What do I need to consider when deciding which model of chipper is best for my needs?

Careful consideration of the brush chipper model you select will save you time, money, and headaches over the long run! Consider what application you will be using your chipper for. What type of work will you be doing? What volume and size of wood are you planning on putting through the chipper? Will most of your jobs be in newer, residential areas with young trees that are smaller in diameter or in established developments with larger, more mature trees? How will you feed your chipper? Are you looking for a gas or diesel-powered machine? All of these questions and more should determine which model of chipper you select. Visit our blog page Things to Consider When Buying a Chipper for more insight into choosing the brush chipper that is best for your needs.

What size chipper should I select for my operation?

Buy too small of a chipper, and you risk spending time and money hauling the wood to another company for chipping, since many dumpsites no longer accept whole trees and large logs. Alternatively, you don’t want to waste fuel running a chipper that’s much larger than necessary. You shouldn’t plan to constantly run the chipper at its maximum capacity. In general, the typical size of the wood you feed your chipper should be about 2/3 of its capacity, with occasional larger pieces. The opening size is intended to allow branches to fold in better, to allow multiple stems to be fed, and to provide smooth intake of material, not to be the size of wood you’re always feeding the chipper.

What maintenance is required to keep Morbark brush chippers running at their best?

Regular maintenance includes checking and replacing knives, inspecting belts and hydraulic systems, ensuring proper lubrication, and performing engine maintenance as per the manufacturer’s guidelines. Morbark provides detailed maintenance manuals for each model. Standard on the BVR line of brush chippers is Morbark’s patented ZeroClutch technology which removes the anxiety of engaging the chipper drum, damaged drive belts, and burned clutch discs. The Morbark ZeroClutch features an integrated drum speed sensor that monitors the drum speed and will not allow the clutch to engage if material is lodged between the feed wheel and drum. The Morbark ZeroClutch requires minimal maintenance, and all maintenance can be performed without removing the ZeroClutch
